Why verify your roofer's license?
California requires any residential roofing project over $500 to be performed by a licensed C-39 (or General B) contractor per B&P §7028. Unlicensed work is a misdemeanor for the contractor AND puts the homeowner on the hook for warranty gaps, insurance denials, and mechanic's liens.
Before you sign anything, confirm four things:
- License is ACTIVE (not suspended, revoked, or expired)
- Classification includes B (General) or C-39 (Roofing)
- Workers Comp is on file (or contractor is exempt with proof)
- Bond is current at the state minimum ($25,000)
